How does it work?

Technical issues are a fact of life. Hard disks fail on a daily basis. Sometimes, an entire server goes down, and despite the best efforts of our datacentre operators and fibre carriers, power outages and fibre cuts happen more often than not. But, it’s our job to ensure you can access your data whenever you want, even if an entire country we’re hosted in goes offline.

Significantly low downtime

We provide reliable access to our services by ensuring our servers experience the most reduced downtime – we’re available over 99% of the time, and when we’re not (less than 1% of the time), your data is safe and secure with us and you can access them after the downtime period.


We use cloudRAID technology. This means we split each file into roughly equal-sized parts and store each part in a different country. We also create a part which contains rules about how the file could be reconstructed, and store it in yet another country. This technology makes it possible to reconstruct the file if one part is unavailable due to, for example, a blackout. Also, best of all, your browser can connect directly to all data centres and reassemble your file thanks to our unique JavaScript on-the-fly transfer processing engine.

MEGA operates CloudRAID data centres in Luxembourg, Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, and Canada and has a total carrier uplink capacity of more than 1000 gigabit/s.
